VINTAGE ART DECO PETROL POCKET THORENS CLOCK and LIGHTER C1930s. Offered for sale is this Thorens Original Art Deco Petrol Pocket lighter with watch/clock, This is the Thorens Original single claw large body version and is manufactured from brass with a superb engine turned finish in a dotted pattern and a very fine lined background. The lighter finish is chromium plate. The lighter works perfectly and has a smooth open and close action and the lid fits well to the body. The lid spring is strong and the lighter will operate correctly when fuel, flint and wick are added. The lid snaps shut perfectly. I have removed all the means of combustion due to CAA regulations. The watch is fully working and appears to keep correct time when testing over a 2 hour period. This is the original watch fitment used on both the offset watch models, the winder is not plated so may be a replacement? The lid has the early snuffer fitted in place, the flintwheel has the screw fixing so I would probably estimate an early 1930s manufacture. The base is the overlap style and marked Thorens Brevete 81816 and the dates for the various different patents for USA and Britain. The original fuel screw is fitted into the base of the lighter which also has the spare flint holder. The lid locking screw mechanism prevents lighter operation when in the pocket. The lighter measures 59mm x 36mm x 11mm. The finish is extremely good with no brassing around the edges of the lid or around the base. There are no visible dings or dents in the body at all, although there is a small dent on the rear back of the lid. The lighter is in very good used condition.
