RARE Fratelli Borletti Travel Alarm Clock 1930s Art Deco Chrome Milano Italy Wks
RARE Fratelli Borletti Travel Alarm Clock 1930s Art Deco Chrome Milano Italy Works (Some Cosmetic Issues). (Well Packed, See Reviews). These clocks are pretty rare, may sometimes be listed as Veglia-Borletti clocks (same makers either way, I’m just trying to be accurate and going off what is stamped on the clock). The face of the clock states made in italy and the movement is signed (engraved/incised backstamp) F. Borletti the bottom indicates it may have been made in 1937, but I cannot confirm that, it could be some other type of serial / manufacturing number system. It matches other styles made by them in 1930s and 40s, later they would make better known Sferyclock alarm clock. There’s a lot of history in these clocks, they made parts for the war, and also led to them making clocks for cars, like the Alfa Romero and more, just google Fratelli Borletti or Borletti Milano or and start reading. Note, the signature (backstamp) is located under the cover, which was removed for the photos, and put back on after. He clock and the alarm work, they are not super precise but pretty close maybe a minute or so give and take on the hour, but it’s about 30 hours you get from winding up the clock, so its for overnight usage, not really a big deal. I don’t think people will be using this as a travel clock, but if you do, note that it’s ticking is pretty loud. And also check your alarm setting by triggering the alarm just before you set the current time. You set the alarm using the small knob on the bottom right of the backside of the clock. One of the winders is clockwise and the other counter-clockwise, the center knob sets the time. Just to be safe I would only turn it the direction the makes the knobs move clockwise. In better shape I would list this for nearly double the price it’s starting at today (June 10th 2023). Condition : Item has obvious signs of wear, which is from the elements (oxidation) which has cause a lot of the chrome to rust or peel, it actually looks pretty cool this way. I used some polish in unseen areas to be able and try to identify the clock. There’s also some scratches and other marks of wear, but the wear kind of compliments the art deco look of the clock. Having said that, this condition definitely doesn’t add value to the clock so the starting price will be a lower than if it didn’t have any of the issues. I lower prices on listings on a regular basis. Zoom In and Get a Good Look Too. To save everybody’s time, I tend to only describe what is wrong with an item.
