The Lawson “New Yorker” is a clock of understated, simple elegance. It, (like the Lawson Zephyr) has a wonderful machine design that transitions late Deco into the style know as Midcentury Modern. The clock is quiet and keeps good time. Unlike my photographs, when the clock is running, the minute numerals will line up squarely in the proper position. When viewed normally, the clock looks wonderful. However, under close scrutiny, one can observe some discoloration and light abrasions. Some copper metal can also be seen on the sharp edges of the case. There are also a couple of areas of discoloration which must be age related because they are under the lacquer finish (see my photograph). There was also a metal door or plate on the back which would normally only be removed when setting the time. This door is now missing.
