Art Deco Clock – Music and Love by. French – Circa 1925. Excellent condition, fully overhauled. A stunning Art Deco clock featuring a young couple, he serenades her with a tune on the pipes, she listens from the other side of the clock. The clock is made of two beautiful specimen marbles, a highly figured red and subtly figured off white. The dial is faux mother-of-pearl, a signature style of. Engraved with red letters and fitted behind a square bezel, very well made and fitted with beveled glass. The dial is faintly signed for a retailer and is complete with blued steel hands. Bezel is brass and the figures are bronze patinated metal. The French movement is of high quality. It is a traditional. Movement and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. On the movement backplate. Was the founder of the firm and a master watchmaker and jeweller. He apprenticed at the age of 11, worked in London for a time, and then moved to Paris where he became the French agent for Vacheron and Constantin in 1879. In 1911 Ferdinand moved the firm to 51 rue Sainte Anne under the name of Verger Frères, as he trained his sons, Henri and Georges, to join the firm. In 1920 Ferdinand left the company to his sons. It was during the time that Henri and Georges ran Verger Freres that it reached its peak. The firm became one of the most famous clock designers of the 1920s. They were particularly known for their innovative use of precious materials in clocks, stands, frames and watches, employing only in-house lapidaries and stone-setters. The business between Verger Freres and Vacheron and Constantin developed into a partnership, while they also produced for all of the great jewellers of the day: Boucheron, Cartier, Chaumet, Janesich, Lacloche, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, and many more. Condition of the case is excellent, marble has a good polish and some small nibbles to the edges. There are some slight marks to the bezel. The figures have their original patination and some slight wear and marks. Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
