RARE VINTAGE TIFFANY & CO. ART DECO 550 BROADWAY NEW YORK CITY BUILDING ATLAS CLOCK. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS OR CRACKS ONLY LIGHT. FROM STORAGE OR DISPLAY (SEE PICTURES FOR DETAILS). DIMENSIONS APPROX: 6”HIGH 9 3/4”WHIDE AND 4 7/8” WIDTH. Design: Modeled after the main Tiffany & Co. Building at 550 Broadway in New York City. The building’s clock is known as Atlas Holding Clock. The Atlas figure is seen on both sides of the teapot. The clock: Roman numerals, set at the standard time 10:10, as used in most photos advertising for Tiffany clocks & watches. The origin of the 10:10 or 10 & 2 is said to form a V for Victory. Others state it is simply for symmetry, that it’s more pleasant to look at, which certainly makes sense with marketing and branding. Many other theories on the 10 & 2 setting, worth a Google search! Teapot Origin: Uncertain but this teapot likely made for Tiffany & Co. In Italy or France. In 1853 Charles Tiffany commissioned sculptor Henry Frederick Metzler to carve a 9-foot tall figure of Atlas holding a clock, to be situated over the entrance. The original clock was four feet in diameter. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. The item “TIFFANY & CO.
