Designed by: Gilbert Rohde, American, 18941944. For The Herman Miller Company. The clock is in original condition with wear consistent with age and use. Please review photos carefully and contact me with any questions. Clock runs accurately at present. Although he lacked formal artistic training, Gilbert Rohde pioneered the field of 20th-century design by creating clean, modern furniture that, like many domestic objects during the first half of the century, skillfully married the machine age with convention. In 1933 he designed a series of clocks for the company, debuting these in his experimental Design for Living interior at the Century of Progress in The International Exposition in Chicago. This clock has been included in the finest collections featuring Mid Century Modern, Machine Age, and Art Deco both private and public. That said, its a rare find! The Art Institute of Chicago features this clock in their permanent collection. Found prominently displayed in American Art, Gallery 264. It is also a part of the collection of world renowned Art Deco pieces at The Wolfsonian-Florida International University. This specific clock is in original condition showing some minor wear, slight delamination on one corner but not torn/broken away. At present the clock works.
