Art Deco hallmarked Sterling Silver Fronted Clock (10.5 x 9.5cm) 1924 (Working)
Art Deco Sterling Silver Fronted Clock. This stylish clock has a sterling silver surround. It is of a classic Art Deco design with an arched top and a square frame with indented sides. The front is covered with an Engine-Turned design with the exception of a vacant oblong cartouche to the bottom section. The silver is set on a black-painted wooden back with a hinged, brass stand. The clock is brass-cased and the dial has roman numerals and is marked 8 Days. It has a wind up movement and the hands are turned by pulling the button out and turning it clockwise to the desired time. Further to my original listing, the clock ran and kept good time for just under 7 days. I was careful not to wind it up completely so I assume it would run for around 8 days at full wind. The silver is hallmarked to the side for Birmingham 1924. Unfortunately, the makers mark is only part-struck and its only just possible to see the letter B followed by Ld. I suspect it is that of A. Who are listed as working at this time and making clocks. This piece is in lovely condition. There are no dents to the silver although there is an extremely light dip to the middle of the right-hand side which is barely noticeable. Ive tried to show in the photos but its so minor it doesnt really show. Please be aware that, after 116 years, there will be some fine abrasions and marks to the silver caused through use. The wooden back is in good order with just a few grazes to the paint as shown in the photos. The stand opens up completely so it would be best to attach it to the back with a string to stop it falling flat. As mentioned above, the clock is working and has a smooth winding mechanism and a gentle tick. Unfortunately, Im not a clock expert and have no way of knowing if its been serviced or cleaned.
