Vintage 1940s Art Deco Brown Bakelite LACKNER “Sultan” Green Jewel NEON Glo CLOCK. An interior neon lights up the dial face with glowing green catalin “jewels” for the hour and minutes. This clock is rarely seen and it displays beautifully. There is very little information on these highly decorative Neon Glo clocks made by Lackner in the 40s. A highly decorative design which I believe also came in Ivory Bakelite and with amber “jewels”. This example of the “Sultan” with Dark Brown Bakelite and Green “Jewels” is in my opinion the prettier version, as the contrast between the green jewels and dark brown Bakelite is most striking. This clock’s Bakelite body construction with a metal back attached causes damage, and unfortunately these clocks commonly have hairline cracks to the Bakelite case. Most examples I have seen have these defects, and this example is no exception. This unique, interesting clock displays beautifully with its green glowing jewels lit up by the neon. The defects do not detract from the beauty of this rare Art Deco collectible clock. Measures approximately 9″ wide x 7 1/2″ high x 3 deep. This clock is currently working and the neon lights up when plugged in. This vintage clock should be gone over by a qualified technician if intended for use.
