This is a superb Smiths Art Deco mains electric clock circa 1935, with pseudo lions on either side of the clock base in the Art Deco style, no doubt influenced by the 1925 British Empire Exhibition, a mere ten years before. The chrome base of this fine clock measures 10 inches by 2 inches and has rounded ends. The lion shapes support the blue glass that houses the clock face and mechanism which has a gentle bevelled edge and having a total height of 5.5 inches and width of 8.25 inches. The 4 inch diameter clock face is mirrored, making the Roman numerals and shaped hour and minute hands to stand out beautifully all of which are framed snugly by a chrome ring. The electric motor has been serviced and cleaned and runs quietly and efficiently keeping amazingly accurate time. The clock is as good as the photographs and has only minimal wear and considering that it is at least 80 years old, the condition is quite amazing. There are two small supports under each of the lions that looks like bronze, as could the chapter ring and hands be, but are more likely brass whatever they are, they do look exceedingly gorgeous.
