Fabulous 1930’s animated wind-up “Fish Globe Clock”. Metal and glass with strong Art Deco design elements throughout. The clockworks are Made In Japan, I have one of these with the movement stamped “Toyo Clock Factory, Japan”, this movement is identical but not stamped that I can see. The movement is wound up all the way and not running. It’s missing one of the animated fish which are normally inside the glass’aquarium’ globe sphere, usually connected to the movement train by thin wire. When working both fish move back and forth as if swimming while the clock ticks. This clock is outstanding cosmetically as you will see in the photos, and all original, not restored or re-painted. The wind-up clock portion will need some restoration. The existing fish needs to be re-attached, and a mate found or made. Fortunately you will have one of the original fish to use for casting or 3-D printing its mate. The wind-up clock mechanism is complete and looks good, the balance moves freely. Very impressive in execution and detail, the clock measures about 5-1/4″ tall, and 4-5/8″ long. A portion of what may be an original paper label or export stamp remains on one corner of the base. Few of these wonderful clocks have survived. This is only the second one I’ve seen in person in over 30 years of watch and clock collecting. I have seen three others in photographs or books. It’s shown on page 21 of’Pastime’ by Philip Collins. Here is a rare opportunity for you to obtain a great looking example as a project for a bargain price.
