Antique Art Deco 1930s Smiths Sunburst Starburst Gesso Gilt Wall Clock Battery Converted. T his very large Art Deco Smiths sunburst or starburst wall clock dates from the 1930s. The clocks deco-esque rays are Gesso a process which was carried out on high end pieces of the period and finished with a gilt finish. The clock is finished off with a white face, black numbers and hands housed under a domed glass with a polished brass outer frame to hold the glass in place. The clock has been battery converted so you don’t have to worry about unsightly wires running down the wall. There are a few small chips to the end of some of the rays which can only be seen close up. This is also its untouched original paintwork. They can be resprayed very easily in antique gold and look fabulous when you do it but then again it removes its originality. These clocks also have a convex face glass which is held in by a highly polished brass circular frame which opens and clips back into position when closed. Clock Diameter: 6.5 inches (16.5cm).
