Rare Black Star and Frost Art Deco enameled, sterling silver with gold color accents travel watch. Circa Late 1920s or early 1930s. Wonderful geometric Art Deco pattern. There are two gold colored plaques on the front. I do not know if these are real gold or not. Watch features shutters on the front which open to expose the clock. The shutters open upon activation of the two black enameled panel push buttons on each side. To view the clock you open the shutters and tilt the clock forward so it holds in place. To close it you push it back and the shutters close. The piece is signed on the dial Black Starr and Frost and Gorham. There is a hallmark on the back panel of the watch along with Sterling. The mechanism may need some cleaning and adjustment. I have not taken the watch apart. I do not know what movement it has inside. The description for that one states that the watch movement is 15 jewels, 2 adjustments, straight line level escapement, cut by bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance-spring. The other watch also was associated with the company Kreisler and c. The piece that is offered to you bears the famous name of the jewelry firm of Black Starr and Frost. Watch measures approximately one and 13/16 inches across by one and 3/16 inches and approximately 1/4 inch thick at the greatest points. The piece is in good vintage condition with normal signs of age – some scratching to the enameling here and there and other signs of wear. There is rubbing on the reverse black enameling which is visible when the watch is tilted in certain ways. Please see all photographs.
