Glass and Metal Swimming Koi. 1930’s Japanese wind-up animated clock. Painted, bronzed, and chromed metals topped by a blue tinted glass sphere. Strong Art Deco and Machine Age design elements throughout. Pictured on page 21 of Philip Collins book’Pastime, Telling Time From 1879 To 1969′. And on page 141 of the Tony Fusco’Art Deco Identification and Price Guide’. An uncommon clock, and this example is in exceptionally fine cosmetic condition. However there are mechanical issues; the clock is wound up all the way and not running. Also it’s missing one of the fish which are normally inside the glass’aquarium’ sphere, and the other fish is detached as you see. The mechanism will need servicing, t. He exsisting fish needs to be re-attached, and a mate found or made, (you can use the one included original fish for casting or 3-D printing its mate). This is a project, not a ready to use fully functioning clock. When working properly both fish move back and forth as if swimming while the clock ticks, the movement caused by the running clockworks. The revolving Ball indicates the time by a single pointer, the French call this style’cercle Tournant’. Lock is outstanding cosmetically as you see. The clockworks mechanism looks excellent and the balance moves freely. I’m not a clock maker and cannot suggest what the restoration of the mechanics will entail. The design is impressive and the fine detail is tremendous. Measures about 5-3/8″ tall, and about 4-5/8″ long. Check out all 12 photos for a good look.
