You’re purchasing a local estate find totally original Vintage General Electric 1938 art deco stunner. This mantle/shelf/desk clock was designed by John Rainbault for General electric. This clock was called the “mirage” and is model number 5F50. It is in excellent original condition. The clock runs quietly and keeps excellent time. It features cream colored and mirrored glass with gold mirrored numerals in a gorgeous deco font. The center of the clock is also mirrored with a golden wave design. The back is covered with a gold faux crocodile pattern of textured paper. The clock has it’s original electric cord and bakelite plug which is in very good shape and does not require re-wiring. The clock is in excellent cosmetic condition. I’d rate it a 9+ out of 10. There are no chips, scratches, blemishes or damage to the glass. The 4 glass corners are sharp and square. The only thing that keeps this clock from being a 10 out of 10 is a small fleck near the 9 which must have occurred from contact to the back paper (this is visible but not distracting when looking at the front). There is also a very small finish fleck on the bottom right corner. Both are very small and in my opinion do not distract at all from the appearance. If you look at the back (pictured) you can see that someone placed what must have been a price tag on the upper rear left at one time. Then it was peeled off. This took a tiny bit of the gold finish off the back but none of this is visible when looking at the front of the clock which is what you’d be looking at. There is also some age wear to the clock housing and footed base but again, not visible at all as it’s on the back of the clock. The dimensions are 7.5″ wide by 6″ high. If you’re looking for a quality showpiece in fabulous condition then look no further. Remember that it’s the things in great condition that increase in value the most. I stand behind all my sales.
