Rare vintage Art Deco Machine Age'Cercle Tournant' Sphere Fish Aquarium Clock
Vintage’Cercle Tournant’ animated clock. Fantastic Art Deco design elements throughout. Constructed of m etal and glass with extreme attention to detail. The clock movement by the Toyo Clock Factory, Japan. The clock is wound up all the way and not running. It’s missing one of the two Koi fish normally inside the glass’aquarium’ sphere, usually two fish are attached to the movement train. When running the fish move back and forth in an animated fashion as if swimming while the clock ticks. This clock is outstanding cosmetically, it’s immaculate, and retains its original surfaces. The one existing fish included needs to be re-attached to the movement, and a mate found or made. Fortunately you will have one of the original Koi fish to use as a model for fabricating or 3-D printing a duplicate. The wind-up clock mechanism is complete and looks excellent. The balance moves freely, there is no obvious damage, and no evidence of prior repairs or tampering. As you see this rare clock is impressive in every measure… Execution, detail, scale, quality. It’s about 5-1/4″ tall, and 4-5/8″ long. A portion of what may be an original paper label or export stamp remains on one corner of the base. Few of these amazing clocks have survived. The clock offered here for a fraction of that price is an order of magnitude nicer cosmetically. Obtaining the finest possible cosmetic condition is the main objective with these clocks, mechanics can always be attended to by a skilled watch/clock maker… Check out the photos, it’s unlikely you will ever see a nicer example.
